I am at so much conflict with how to vote on proposition 2.
everything that I know and believe in says that marriage is a holy union for a man and a woman to enter into.....given to us by God
I still believe that.....but because I believe that....and I believe in the constitution....which says there is a separation between church and state.....then my belief is just that......my belief
at first I found myself lobbying for proposition 2 (henceforth referred to as ps2).....until I heard some valid arguments that made sense to me.....that only confused me until I was explaining to someone else what these arguments were to not vote for ps2........as a result, I think I've talked myself into voting against it
it seems to me that the best way to protect the sanctity of holy marriage is to remove it entirely from the state, and give it back to the church (where it belongs....separation of church and state after all)....it is at this level that marriage can be protected, and limited to only man and woman
so what happens to individuals who get "married" through the state....simple, they are partners in a civil union.....meaning everything that it still does now......but since it is a partnership..why not make it open to all
the wording to ps2 seems somewhat hypocritical from section 1 to 2.....in section one it states that noone in the state may recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage if it is not between a man and woman......yet in section two it states that steps can be taken to permit non-traditional husband and wife partnerships similar benefits.....but without the existence of any legal status identical or similar to marriage.......in other words......section one: if you're not a man and woman then you can't have certain things....but don't freak out because section two: if you really want these things that we said you can't have, you can....you just have to jump through all these hoops first
It's almost like saying that only a certain group of people get to vote.....but those excluded can vote too if they fill out three more forms.....as long as they don't call it voting
I dunno, this is truly an ethical dilema....one that I will just have to leave in God's hands, and pray that no matter how I vote that his will be done.
peace be with you all.
